Christian Tagalog Blog: Completing Our Mission

Acts 20:24However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” He says His mission — the work that God gave him — was to tell people the Good News.

Anything we do for God is worship. Anything we do for other believers is ministry. Anything we do for unbelievers is mission. God wants every Christian to have a ministry in the church family and a mission in the world. We need them both.

Our mission to unbelievers is to be a witness; to share to them our personal experience on what God has done in our life.

Acts 1:8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

It doesn’t say we have to be His salesman. A salesman persuades people to try their product. Sometimes they use pressure and all kinds of gimmicks. We are not called to do that. We’re just witnesses.

It also doesn’t say we have to be God’s attorneys. God does not need to be defended. The Bible doesn’t need defending. We don’t have to debate people into heaven. That’s not our job. As witnesses, we are just tells what we’ve seen, what we’ve experienced. All we have to do is tell what happened to us and what God has done in our life. That is our mission, our job description.

Romans 1:5 “Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to faith and obedience for his name’s sake.”

Why is our life mission so important?

1. We’ve been given a life-saving message.

It’s the greatest news in the world. Romans 1:16 “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.”

How do people become believers? There’s only one way. They’ve got to hear the Good News first.

Who are you taking to heaven with you? You’ve got the greatest news in the world. Have you been sharing it with the people around you? Is anybody going to come up to you in heaven and say, “I want to thank you. I’m here because of you.” Or are you going to keep it a big secret in your life.

If I had the cure for AIDS I’d be out shouting it in the street. I’d be doing anything I could to get the word out. If I had the cure for cancer or Alzheimer’s or any of the other major diseases that inflict our society, I would be out sharing it as quick as I could, spending all my effort to do that.

But you and I have a message even greater than that. It’s not just life changing, it’s life-saving. The Bible says our witness is the power God uses to get people into heaven. It has eternal consequences.

There are only two places people go to when they die: heaven or hell. We are all eternal beings. Our body dies, but not our spirit and soul. If you are a believer, you go to heaven. If not, hell is your destination. And hell is a real place.

When we share the gospel there is a chance that people will get saved. That’s what Romans 1:16 says, the gospel is the power of God that brings salvation to those who believe. The greatest joy in life, first, is coming to know Christ yourself. Then the second greatest joy in life is helping other people meet Christ too.

We have a life-saving message that God has given us to tell other people. We can’t keep it a secret, we’ve got to share it with our families, with our relatives, with our neighbors, with the people we work with, with people we don’t even know. Everybody deserves to know about Jesus. He loves them all.

2. People are desperate to hear it.

People need it. Matthew 9:36-37When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples,  The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.”

People are hurting and helpless. May mga tao ba sa inyong paligid na nasa ganitong kalagayan. Problemado at hindi alam ang gagawin? Lito at walang masulingan?

People’s problems have not changed. People from all walks of life have problems. Even the rich and famous have problems. Why do you think they will take drugs and alcohol? Why do you think they would call it quits? And there is only one person who has the power to help change them to become what they really want to be in the first place. And that’s Jesus Christ.

All around us we have a world of hurting and helpless people and they’re desperate to hear this message. The world is far more ready to hear the good news about Jesus than most Christians are ready to share it.

That’s the Good News. They are desperate to hear it.

We have all the answers that people are looking for. The problem isn’t the harvest. The problem is the labor shortage. The problem is Christians are silent. We’ve got people all around them who are hurting and helpless and we’re saying nothing to them.

Why? We lack compassion (Matthew 9:36). To fulfill our mission, we’ve got to love people. And until we start caring about the people around us, we’re not going to talk to them.

Maybe we need to go to our friends and apologize to them. We need to say, “You’ve been my best friend and I’ve never talked to you about the most important thing in my life and I’m sorry. Please forgive me.”

When they ask “What?” you’ve got them! “I’ve never told you about my relationship to Christ. And I’m sorry because it’s the most important thing in my life. I was afraid you’d put me down as some nut or freak and I’ve got to tell you, it’s the greatest news in the world.” Do it naturally. You don’t pound them. You don’t beat them up. You don’t start preaching at them. You just say, “This is what happened to me.”

With the heart man believeth unto righteousness…with the mouth believers confess Christ. The witness of Christ is received. The witness of Christ flows from the lips. People will testify to the experience of Christ when they actually have Him in their heart. We the church are witnesses for Christ. We tell people about Him: To as many that receive Him… to them…He gives power…to testify and confess and witness. Great passion for Christ. God is with you.

Amen! tell the gospel as you experience it in your life…. no other way is more encouraging than when you speak of it first hand. Let’s not just be hypocrites to preach and teach the gospel without experiencing it to the glory of God.
