No I am not saying “being talented”; I am saying if you are a human being, you are talented.
There is such a thing as being “sorta” talented, reasonably, quite, or exceptionally. the dictionary defines it as ” a special or very great ability”.
God defines it as; Something everybody has. He might well lament, however ; people fail to look for it, having found it they fail to develop it (them), and perhaps most importantly fail to help others discover theirs.
I would personally subscribe to the idea that that Discovery = Purpose. Is it not that God places us upon this earth to serve His purposes?
Talent and ability DO NOT mean the same thing. Talents are spiritual gifts, ability is our own natural fitness and personality. Yet, at the same time, can they not be the same; be they nurses, doctors, teachers or many others?
Yes,if they have the ability to learn to be, and the sense to recognize that it may be their gift as well.
The servant in Matt: 25, with the one “Talent” (a value designation of a coin) in the parable describes the vast majority of us. We must never bemoan the smallness of His gifts to us. The parable clearly states; ” If we have only one talent we must use it to gain one more”. What does that say to us? That we are stewards ; we can and must double His capitol. How pathetic it is, in the case of the servant who buried his for fear of losing it; losing what he would not use. He lost all of what he had.
Back to the beginning; if GIFT = PURPOSE then we have lost purpose in life.
I am living at this point in time where I see many people of advanced age who have met the challenge of discovery and those who have not; those who are Self absorbed and those who are Gift absorbed. I look for those who are to be so commended that are still developing their gifts for the greatest return to the Giver of All Joy and Purpose.
God’s last words to us can be; “Well done, good and faithful servant”.
What do we think He is talking about?
