HE LIFTS US UP: ABUSE AWARENESS– Introduction to Sexual Abuse

The abuse that I want to talk about today is one of the deepest and hardest abuses to talk about. In fact, I have decided to make this a general introduction to the topic and then proceed with a series and discuss the various types individually. This difficult topic will include the various sexual abuses.Unfortunately, sexual abuse and violence comes in many forms. In order to better understand the wide range of sexual assault and violence that can occur, I will provide information on the different types of rape and sexual violence. A general definition of sexual abuse is as follows:

sexual abuse

1. The forcing of unwanted sexual activity by one person on another, as by the use of threats or coercion.
2. Sexual activity that is deemed improper or harmful, as between an adult and a minor or with a person of diminished mental capacity.

All of the sexual abuses are so personal and many are hidden deep within the recesses of our minds. We tend to push these back, intentionally trying to forget or even trying to explain away how it could have happened. Many victims live with guilt, shame, and confusion.  Many have felt that it is easier not to talk about it. But, we have to all realize that it is not the victim’s fault and realize that  healing comes when these wounds are exposed.

I just want to reinforce that God loves the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He knows all that we have been through and He wants to heal us.

Psalm 147:3, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Beautiful post.. I was one of them.. from my babysitter’s father, who she left me alone with a LOT. I didn’t remember until years later, but God is gracious and has bound the wounds. It affected my life deeply and left scars, but with the love of God, I have healed even from the aftermath.

    Thank you for posting.

I am so sorry that you have been through this. No child should be abused in any form. No one should be abused at all. The wounds of abuse are deep but God heals and restores. Many blessings to you, my sister. God is raising His army and we are all part of it to speak out about abuse and help others.

Thank you for your encouragement. I know that this is such a terrible thing. I’ve had three men tell me of similar abuse, heart-breaking stories. God is so awesome in how He has allowed me to share this at times with others to help them through their own healing and to help me to understand part of I am due to what I’ve been through.
May God bless you in your wonderfully anointed ministry.
        Easter

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I just praise God for what He is doing. We never understand in our brokenness as we go through the abuse but when God has raised us out of our pit of despair, it is then that we can see that God has been there through all of our pain and suffering. Many blessings to you, my sister!
