Significant Insignificance

Sometimes we imagine our heads a few sizes larger than they are. It’s easy for some of us to conjure our significance from our accomplishments in life. We are capable of inflating our egos two or three times their normal size.

See if these images don’t take you down a notch or two:

In 1977, scientists sent a message to Voyager telling it to turn around and take a picture. Voyager was 3.7 trillion miles from Earth and sent back this image referred to as “The Pale Blue Dot”. You must look very closely to see it.

voyagerOne scientist called it a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

THINK ABOUT THIS: Every person who has ever lived or whoever will ever be born will live out their lives on that pale blue dot.

THINK ABOUT THIS TOO: As tiny as we are, as insignificant we may think we are sometimes, the Creator of the universe, the Creator of everything calls us His children and knows us by name. He sees us, loves us, protects us, provides for us, and will some day come back to get us and take us to live with Him forever.

That is majestic, eternal significance. And we have it.

Louis Giglio's video, Indescribable was my inspiration for this blog post. Some of the images in this post are from his video.

As an after thought to a blog I just shared, I searched the web for ‘significant insignificance’ and this came up. And I read it and was blessed. Thank you
