As I prayed this morning, my heart went out to all those who have been hurt by the actions of parents and then I heard this song by Jason Upton as I thought of this poem… “Father to the Fatherless”.
Many are so broken,
from the failures of a parent…
but abusive mothers or fathers,
are not always apparent.
Abandonment also happens,
with wounds real and deep.
And these wounds hurt,
causing many to weep.
Many decisions for our futures,
are based on wounds of our past.
Whether accepting more abuses,
or seeking “love” too fast.
For children learn by example,
and will replicate what they see.
But so many are “fatherless”,
and good parenting is a key.
For God gives us children,
to raise as He has spoken.
And He’s Father to the fatherless…
for all those who are broken.
Psalm 68:5… “Father to the fatherless, defender of widows–this is God, whose dwelling is holy.”
Dear Lord, on this Father’s Day, we lift up all fathers to You. We lift up all the broken, all the wounded, all those whose lives have been hurt by the words and actions of others. We pray for total healing and restoration for all. We ask You to raise up a generation of Fathers who will seek You and walk in righteousness and teach the next generations to parent in the ways that are approved by You. Bring Spiritual fathers to the children who have none and raise up Your Army of Spiritual Leaders who will lead future generations to serve You… in Jesus Name. Amen.
