IHS 15 – The activators

The last talent was the achievers. They love to finish things. Today’s talent is the activators. They love to get things started. ‘When can we start?’ is their most asked question.

Activators just want to start. They might not have a plan of action, or know how they are going to get things done. They just want to get started. And once something is started they might not want to finish it, or keep things going. For the activator talent it is about the starting.

Because of this, and depending on a person’s other talents, it might be good for an activator to work with either someone who is good at planning, as well as those who are good at finishing.

Activators can activate themselves, but they are often great at activating others. They often want to tell others to get going on things. This talent is often part of the talent mix of natural leaders. They want to get people doing things and then leave them to finish it on their own. Therefore they believe in ‘releasing’ people in ministry.

When this talent is badly managed people can feel like they are just being used as ‘worker bees’. This is particularly true in a ministry setting where an activator, without other relational talents, is leading relational people. Relational people want relationship. The activator wants people starting (and finishing) things.

  1. Nate, I have been reading your posts on talents, and today I am thankful to know about them. You see, my small group leaders announced today that they are moving out of state- they expressed all confidence that we will figure out how to keep the momentum going. We have undertaken a big project under the encouragement of our leaders. Please include us in your prayers…Pursuit of Purpose Project. Praying for God to lead…wisdom and perseverance to keep the fire burning…strength to rise above the sadness that comes with change and transition…. Thank you ~AoA

Nate , are the activators the ra-ra people? Like injection, they boost action and leave the momentum to carry others through a project ?
