Teens Blog- SF11- Hope in the Midst of a Tornado

If you are familiar with twisters and tornadoes, you know that they come alive very quickly and unexpectedly. Right before they hit, it becomes very dark and thick, with violently strong winds impacting at high speed and little time to react.

That is often how we relate when bad things happen. We don’t always expect it and when it hits us, it is overwhelming, scary, and leaves you wondering, “Where is God in all of my turmoil?”

Some of you may have just found out that your parents are getting a divorce. Maybe you heard that someone close in your family is struggling with a drug problem or was abused. Worse, yet, maybe someone died for reasons you don’t understand and you wish you were there to rescue them.

Every time you turn on the television or look at the internet and see more turbulence in the world around you, it can feel like God is very far away. So far, that you begin to wonder if He cares or if there is hope.

It is in these times that your faith is tested, to see if your trust is still in God while you are in the midst of these crises.

Just like a tornado, your emotional and spiritual life becomes unraveled and wavering in the wind. You can barely hold on or see what is in front of you. My message to you…

DON’T LOSE HOPE! You may not understand the circumstances of why God has allowed these things to happen. Our Eternal Father can see way beyond our own comprehension and knows everyone’s brokenness and pain. Just because He is not showing you why so much is happening in your life doesn’t mean He won’t reveal it to you later. He sees the fallen world around you and how it influences your life. Even in the midst of your pain and struggle, He can still use you or the situation for His Glory. You may ask how?

You see, nothing that happens to you is wasted. God uses mistakes, failures, your devastating hurt and even the very crisis you are in now. In fact, God can even use attacks from satan that was meant to hurt you and turn it completely around. That is the powerful God you serve.

You can call on the Holy Spirit who is called our comforter – John 14:16-17 “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.”

When you cry out to the Holy Spirit for help and comfort, He will be with you in your time of need. When the Holy Spirit comes, you will be able to find peace and strength in the midst of your tornado.

Sometimes the sadness, the grief or pain are entirely from satan who is out to make sure you fall away from God. As we hear of the story of Job in the Old Testament, he had everything and in one moment lost everything. Family gone! Wealth gone! Friends who would support him – gone! All that was left was satan with his constant torments towards Job and a God who was silent for a period of time.

But that wasn’t the end of the story. I would encourage you to read your Bible to find out what happened to Job. What I can say is this – Job’s story ends in a way that changes his life and brings total glory to God.

So the next time you are faced with a twister or tornado, remember, no matter how bad it seems, you have a God who is waiting for you to come to Him. Allow Him to work in your life, in the midst of your chaos and ask Him to show you how He is going to use you and your circumstances for His Glory!

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. Romans 8:18

You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4

He will wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, nor pain. All of that has gone forever.”            Revelation 21:4
