Have you wondered why often God’s answers to our prayers are different from our requests? Have you been disappointed many times because your expectations were not met? I used to be puzzled until one day I realized that The Lord God’s perspective is different from ours and we demean Him to ask Him for large requests in our perspective but minuscule in His.
Isaiah 55:9NIV “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Since then I have watched and prayed. Yes watching for God’s direction rather than dictating to Him what He must do, otherwise we get angry, bitter, disappointed, doubting that He loves us, and wishing we were gods.
My sister was a stenographer (today, not many know what a stenographer did ) and she was dictated to, wrote the dictation in ” short-hand” and speedily transcribed it into written document. Contracts and meeting minutes and official documents were often dictated to capture what had transpired where the stenographer was not present at the meeting. The stenographer had no power or authority. Just a conduit to document facts which may be true or not from perspective of the dictator.
Many of us dictate to God as if He was not there all the time, as if He had no authority. Worse forgetting that His ways are higher than our ways. Behaving as Mighty Mouse we have hidden agendas, strategic plans and a mind of our own and expecting to have our plans come to fruition.
We forget The Lord has a good plan for us which is the long- term even to everlasting. We dare attempt to micro- manage God. Of course He will not allow us to be little gods. Princes and princesses yes, but not little gods.
It is one of my precious learnings to know that He is God. I can depend on Him to work for my good. My present may not be the best but eternally I can rest assured He has my best interest in heart. He is ever present. He has absolute authority and power but often shares some of His control with me ( and God forgive, sometimes I get so puffed up it is no longer funny).
Yes, when we know He remembers we are dust and often forgives us for over- stepping our human boundaries, and the sooner we learn our place in the total scheme of things, the better is our relationship with Him. There is a settled peace and joy beyond human understanding, there is calmness and confidence that He is right all the time, and that He orchestrates others and circumstances for our good.
Praise The Lord, He loves us so much even though His Father’s heart feels for our temporary pain, to fulfil His best plan for us.
