Those who have experienced the roar of the lion in the African bush describe it this way “In the darkness it is the sound of raw power, of a predator, fierce, chilling, frightening”. While most of us have not experienced it in the wilds of Africa we have heard the roar.
The roar that tells you are nothing and you always have been you always will be
The roar that tells that may work for everyone else but it won’t for you
The roar that tells you God won’t answer your prayers
The roar that tells you God is punishing you
The roar tells you your husband, your daughter, your son, your daughter are not coming back
The roar that tells you it will always be this way
The roar that says you are a failure
The roar that says if God is really God why did he allow that to happen.
The roar that tells you will not be healed, you will not be free, you will not be delivered And on, and on, and on…..
We have all heard the roar. But do we really understand it’s purpose?
“Most importantly, be disciplined and stay on guard. Your enemy the devil is prowling around outside like a roaring lion, just waiting and hoping for the chance to devour someone”. 1 Peter 5:8
Who is the roaring lion? His name is Lucifer, Satan, the great deceiver, the accuser, the angel of light, the devil. Scripture tells us he rules over a vast, organized and powerful kingdom of evil, opposing everything God has purposed to do. His goal is to destroy us, to make our faith of no use. He wants us to doubt God and His promises. Waiting and hoping for a chance to devour someone But sadly many do not even accept the fact he exists.
C.S. Lewis warned of two potential dangers concerning our enemy
“There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They are well pleased by both”. *
Scripture makes it clear that we face a very real enemy and we must be aware of this life or death struggle that has spiritual and eternal ramifications.
” We’re not waging war against enemies of flesh and blood alone. No, this fight is against tyrants, against authorities, against supernatural powers and demon princes that slither in the darkness of this world, and against wicked spiritual armies that lurk about in heavenly places”. Ephesians 6:12
How do we avoid “falling prey”to the devil and his schemes. How do we do battle against the roar of the enemy? In Revelations 12 we read of victory that is to come and how that victory is won
“By the blood of the Lamb
and the word of their testimony,
they have become victorious over him”
Our enemy, the one who accused us before God day and night that roared over our lives is finally and forever defeated. In this present time we accept this victory, we overcome him by the blood of Christ when we acknowledge our sinfulness (Romans 3:23) and accept the grace of forgiveness and redemption from all sin, past present and future.
We overcome him by the word of our testimony, and our testimony is that we believe God. We believe what He says about our present and our future regardless of our circumstances. No matter what the roar might say…
