We are aliens – foreign ( heaven) born and not worldly citizens.
They have their laws which may be different from your country’s. Their penalties for contravening the laws could surprise you – some hang, some give life sentences with the rotan or some painful stripes on your back.
Don’t talk bad, surely not of their majesties or spend sometime behind bars.
Don’t speed, observe the local traffic regulations or else you could land in hospital or to the worst, cease to live.
Even President Obama recently did not escape negative press for chewing gum at official meetings in China .
When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
When in the world do we live like the worldly do?
No, we have to be different because this world is not our home. It has to be a conscious decision. To live differently from the world in attitude, motivation, mission, worship, lifestyle and destination. Are you different?
We must know what is expected of heaven’s citizens from the Word of God and know how they differ from the world’s.
We cannot act like them.
We need to be constantly reminded that this world is not our home for it is so easy to be lulled or bullied into compliance and complacency.
Heaven is our home.
Whether as missionaries in a foreign land or as individuals in our earthly homes, remember – this world is not our home. It makes it easier so we do not have split personalities.
Let us be single- minded, not tossed to and fro like the waves of the sea. For many of our struggles emanate from trying to be accommodating, compromising, patient, being kind, being understanding and popular with the world while the Holy Spirit reminds us we are different, we ought to be different and hear a different drum. Let us not be so comfortable that we regret at the coming of The Lord, or when He tells us to move on, and have to choose between Him and the things we hold dear.
Lord, help us when we are weak, make us strong and courageous against the weaknesses of our flesh. We long for heaven above. Even so come quickly Lord Jesus. Amen.
