Teens Blog SF26 – The Door to Your Secret Sin

There comes a time in which every Christian teen is tested, or should I say tempted. For many reasons that only you know, you chose to open this door.

For “D” when she was 9, she opened this door by mistake, but after that moment, she chose to continue to open this door as she aged because of her low self-esteem and body issues.

For another, this boy chose to open this door out of curiosity and peer pressure from his friends. He was about 11. He knew it was wrong, but he chose to continue doing it for the next several hours until he was caught.

For 17-year-old “R”, he had been practicing his nightly visits for quite some time despite attending church and having a girlfriend.

Once this door is opened, it will most likely turn into an addiction, an addiction that even affects Christian teens.

On an average, this door is opened for pre-teens and teens starting around the age of 11. Maybe you are one of them. And although this addiction is hard to break, it is not difficult for God to deliver you from.

So you are probably wondering what this door is? It’s not smoking, drinking or even cursing, although all of them are bad for you.

This door is called, “Porn”. Sadly the statistics of Christian teens seeking and looking at porn are higher than ever and yet many teens do not comprehend the dangers of how it can ruin the rest of their lives.

Yes, it does affect a person’s life, even more so for a teen. Why? Did you know that looking at porn can trigger and alter your brain into an addictive behavior as you age? Did you know that looking at porn can destroy relationships and marriages? Did you know that each time you do this, you are pouring something sexually immoral and evil into your spirit, a spirit that was meant for a relationship with God?

Some people think that it’s only a guy problem. Untrue! In fact, just as many girls look at porn as guys do. So why do teens look at it in the first place?

1. Low self-esteem about themselves
2. Curiosity
3. Dare
4. Hormones
5. Wanting to know about sex
6. Body Issues

A lot of teens don’t know the demeaning things that happen to those in the porn industry as well as the devastating results of being in that industry. Many have died. Many have been raped. Many have AIDS and other diseases. Many are runaways. Many are prostitutes. Many hate being in it. And more sadly, many are lost without hope.

As Christian teens, each time you view porn, someone in the porn industry is getting money from it and most porn stars don’t even see it. Their pimps and producers get it all. And more importantly, every time you view porn, you are putting seeds of sin within you, like adultry, sexual immorality, and lust. This isn’t just into your heart, but also your mind and your spirit.

By doing so, you are bringing about a division between you and God because He is Holy. That is not to say that you cannot be forgiven, but you are playing a dangerous game into thinking that you can watch porn and stand in the presence of God.

This is not a ‘point the finger’ at you warning, but a warning out of love from God’s word.

Psalm 119:9-10 – How can a young man (teen) keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!

Proverbs 7:21-27 – With much seductive speech she persuades him; with her smooth talk she compels him. All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a stag is caught fast till an arrow pierces its liver; as a bird rushes into a snare; he does not know that it will cost him his life. And now, O sons, listen to me, and be attentive to the words of my mouth. Let not your heart turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her paths…

I Thessalonians 4:3-6 – For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you.

James 1:14-15 – But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.

1 Corinthians 6:18-20 – Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

The effects of porn on you:

• Alters the brain and desensitizes you
• Leads to addiction
• Destroy marriages
• Spreads Aids and other sexual diseases
• Helps you demean women and men
• Leads to molestation and rape
• Leads to pedophilia
• Leads to serious crimes such as serial killers
• Destroys families
• Leads to physical abuse

So you have to ask yourself this question. Knowing all that you do just now, do you really want to continue exposing yourself to porn and a separation from God?

To help you really understand the dangers of porn, you can watch Shelley share her testimony as a famous porn star to a school of Christian high school students. Her life was dramatically altered as a pre-teen which led her into this life of porn and how God redeemed her on the road to death.

You will be shocked at what you hear and amazed at what God did in her life. And the best news to you is that God can redeem and rescue you from viewing porn as well. Nothing is too difficult to Him.

But the most important question you may need to ask yourself is this, “Do I really want to encourage this in my life and even destroy my relationship with God?”

I can promise you this. It may be hard at first, but guaranteed, you will feel free in Christ and given a new found freedom in life. You will be blessed for being obedient.

So if you are dealing with porn today and don’t know how to stop.  First – pray! Second – Read God’s Word for strength.  Third – Seek counsel such as your youth pastor or senior pastor.  Fourth – Find ways to occupy the time you have free to keep yourself from being tempted.  Five – Ask God for deliverance…He is a BIG GOD and He will help you.

1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
