The past 2 mornings I awoke with a song on my heart.
It’s not a song that exists but this is how it starts…

Triggers…
Just when you think you’re whole.
Triggers…
Reveals wounds deep to your soul.
Triggers…
Releasing hidden pain and fears.
Triggers…
Resulting in shaking and tears.

Triggers…
So many just don’t understand.
Triggers…
But you’ve experienced abuse by this man.
Triggers…
To many it’s really no big deal.
Triggers…
But you can’t stop the response you that feel.

Triggers…
All your joy these triggers steal.
Triggers…
Reveals there’s more wounds to heal.
Triggers…
Stirring something deep within.
Triggers…
Like fearing more abuse to begin.

Triggers… Dear Lord!
Please heal these wounds so deep.
So for You we can finally speak.
Please make us strong and bold.
So the effects of abuse can truly be told.

So many people do not understand what abuse does to victims, whether child abuse, sexual abuse, any domestic violence, and even workplace abuse. These abuses are done in secret, behind closed doors, where only the victim knows the truth and knows the extent of the capabilities of these abusers. These triggers cause involuntary responses with past memories bringing uncertainty,  fear,  crying, etc. No, we are not crazy. We have been wounded and only God can heal these wounds down to the depths of our spirits and souls. We have to trust Him and believe His Truth.

Dear Lord, we ask You to heal the wounds of our pasts and deliver us from all the memories that trigger these spontaneous responses. Bring healing and restoration from all the abuses that we have endured from our childhood and into adulthood, from the smallest to the biggest, to the most minor to the most severe, all abuses and all wounds… in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
