Faith Child – You are commissioned to disciple

Continuing in our small group study on Radical by David Platt, we were confronted with the question of  “who has been commissioned to make disciples?”

It was obvious by the lackadaisical  way we live as Christians, many of us did not believe that every Christian believer is commissioned to make disciples.

lackadaisical (ˌlækəˈdeɪzɪkəl) – adjective
1. lacking vitality and purpose
2. lazy or idle, esp in a dreamy way

Really? You and I are commissioned by Christ to make disciples. First things first, have you and I become disciples of Christ? How can we make disciples when we are not disciples?

We do not have to be perfect to begin discipling – if the fisherman, the tax collector and the many New Testament believers had waited for perfection they would never have begun  discipling.

We do not disciple within the confines of the church building. We need to disciple outside the church where we live and are sent daily to earn a living, to trade, to be a witness ( although sometimes, it is tougher to be a disciple among the church family ) .

Discipling must be intentional. Do we rise up each morning with the mind-set, ” who am I discipling today? ”

Discipling must not be left to the church leadership.

Discipling must be carried out by life example in everyday living. Have you a disciple? How many disciples have you made since you became Christ’s follower?

What has to change in your attitude, priorities and life-style for you to be a disciple and make disciples?

Why is it so urgent ? Because the night come th when no man can work!

Hey Ho! We are not only to sow seeds, we are to reap the harvest too – ripened seeds for Jesus!

Be a radical – be intentional in disciple-making – not one disciple at a time but many – influencing your spouse, your children, your extended family, your peers at work, in the market-place, in church – wherever He sends you during your day and night.

Faith Child – You are commissioned to disciple.

Disciple – noun

–  One who embraces and assists in spreading the teachings of another.

–  An active adherent, as of a movement or philosophy.

–  One of the original followers of Jesus. Aa a  member of the Disciples of Christ.

Would we be so radical as to say   “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin ” ? (.James 4:17. )

Matthew 28:19 – Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Go! No excuse for not going.

Please Lord, help us to be obedient, courageous and enduring. Amen
