It is interesting how every day things can be reminders of how much Christ has done for us.
I left work early today trying to get ahead of our latest winter storm. Sleet and freezing rain had already made the roads icy and dangerous. As I was driving down the last steep hill to enter the on ramp to the main highway just ahead of me a modot (Missouri Dept.of Transportation) truck was scraping the road and spreading salt. I was able to follow him all the way down the steep grade on to the highway.
In the moment I definitely found a new best friend.
As I thought about how grateful I was for his service and his help I was reminded of my true best friend. The One who went the distance for me, the One who now goes ahead of me to help me through all the storms of life. And while I am truly grateful for my unknown friend in the salt truck, I am eternally grateful for this friend who sticks closer than a brother, his name is Jesus. If you are reading this and you do not know Him it would be an honor to introduce you to Him.
For God expressed His love for the world in this way: He gave His only Son so that whoever believes in Him will not face everlasting destruction, but will have everlasting life. John 3:16
When the time was right, the Anointed One, Jesus, died for all of us who were far from God, powerless, and weak. Romans 5:6
But think about this: while we were wasting our lives in sin, God revealed His powerful love to us in a tangible display—the Anointed One died for us. 9 As a result, the blood of Jesus has made us right with God now, and certainly we will be rescued by Him from God’s wrath in the future. Romans 5:8-9
So if you believe deep in your heart that God raised Jesus from the pit of death and if you voice your allegiance by confessing the truth that “Jesus is Lord,” then you will be saved! 10 Belief begins in the heart and leads to a life that’s right with God; Romans 10:9-10
For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone. There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:11-12
