Righteous Judgment – a present tense judgment of the Believer

1 Peter 4:17-19…For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

  • Accountability to God first begins when we are saved. Reason? A Christian is judged righteous by God and thus obeys the Gospel.
  • The righteous are scarcely saved. Reason? If they commit an unrighteous act they are no longer righteous…unless they repent. Salvation is not guaranteed for the unrighteous.
  • God judges a believer righteous (in this present life) and bestows the heavenly gift of righteousness from Christ upon the heart and soul.
  • Those judged righteous are accountable for every action they make in the eyes of a creator….the righteous commit themselves to God in all their deeds.

The works of a child of God are always good…not evil. Evil is purged from the believing heart in the new birth in this life – all takes place on this side of Heaven. The works of the righteous are good in the eyes of God as the believing heart is accountable to God Almighty for every act and deed he makes in life.

Ephesians 3:10…For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

1 Peter 4:6…For this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

Present tense judgment is how God judges men in this life as Christians who live according to God in the Spirit.

The future tense Judgment is when Christ returns a second time and will be a judgment for the unbeliever. Christ will come in flaming fire taking vengeance upon those who believe not and did not obey the Gospel.

2 Thessalonians 1:8-10… when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints,

Righteousness that deems a man right in the eyes of God is the power of God’s Grace bestowed to the believing heart that gives this individual the ability to “do right”. Not man’s own righteousness but a God-given (present tense righteousness) that comes from the Christ of our Salvation.
