He Will Return

christ will return 4

On that day, with a command that thunders into the world, with a voice of a chief heavenly messenger, and with a blast of God’s trumpet, the Lord Himself will descend from heaven.

For we can say all this to you confidently because it is the word of the Lord: we who are still alive and left behind when the Lord comes will not precede those who have fallen asleep in death. 1 Thessalonians 4:15-16

We most often read this passage from 1 Thessalonians at funerals. These words written by the apostle Paul have given comfort and hope throughout the ages, a promise for those who remain that at some future time they will be reunited with their loved ones who die in the Lord Jesus. There is another promise in this that gives even greater hope

He’s coming back.

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.” John 14:1-3

I will come and get you…

I love this. When I was a child and my parents would make a promise I knew they would keep it. When I was a teenager and got into a little trouble requiring my Dad to come pick me up from the police station, I knew that when he said “I will come and get you” I was absolutely confident he would.

We can have that same confidence in Jesus promise,  “I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.”

Chuck Swindoll writes:  If He comes for us at the end of our existence here on earth or if He comes suddenly at the end of the age, make no mistake scripture promises He will return.

“But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment. Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live, looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along.” 2 Peter 3:10-12

Are you ready for His return?

About HCliffCraig.com

“Now at last they were beginning chapter One of the great story no one on earth has read: which goes on forever”. I love this line at the end of the Last Battle by C.S. Lewis. Everyone has a story to tell and ultimately we are all part of a greater story that someday will be revealed in full. “ For now, we can only see a dim and blurry picture of things”. ( 1 Corinthians 13:12). My story is not remarkable, although the events I have had the privilege in my life to witness have been. I grew up in the south “the land of cotton” and the old times there were definitely not forgotten. I remember where I was and what I was doing when JFK and Martin Luther King were murdered in Dallas and in Memphis. I remember the Civil Rights movement, a time of great unrest and change. I remember the dawning of the “Age of Aquarius” in the late 1960’s. It was also the dawning of my love for playing music, a love that has stayed with me throughout my life. If my life were chapters in a book one would tell of my precious bride of 20+ years who endured so much and stood beside me through the good and the bad. One would describe the blessings of being a father and a grandfather. One would tell about how despite being “the wretch” the song sings about God was able to change me, and use me to make a difference in others lives, make me a servant in His church, and surround me with friends all because of His goodness. All part of a story that has had many twists and turns. I think of the words Jimmy Buffet wrote in one of my favorite songs "As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin’ man I have chalked up many a mile Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks And I learned much from both of their styles" And so it is true for me. But in all of my travels and all I have read and experienced nothing compares to where I am headed. The place where my story here ends and the story that goes on forever begins! "" I am confident that He who began a good work in you will carry it on until completion until the day He returns". Philippians 1:6 My hope is that as we all run our race that in some small way my words will encourage and speak to you, as your story is being written. And draw you ever closer to the One who loves you. Further up and further in!

  1. He is not willing that any would perish..but yet those who refuse His offer of salvation will. A hard truth but true nevertheless. Sadly many who claim the name of Christ live no different than those in the world, and if that is so, what do we have to offer. I posted on messagefromthefield.com an article by John Eldredge that deals with this.

We so want to believe that He is only the God of grace. We limit Him and His character which is all rounded to include He is also our God of justice. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. The soul that sinneth shall die, except to those who accept His gift of salvation ( given at great cost by the Blood of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God) . He is God of love yet He will return as Judge one day. Let us choose His escape through Jesus Christ and be spared the judgement.

  3. Beverley says:

I’m ready but I wish I could get my friends and family to ready too. 😦

O yes, that is the wish of many children of God – that family and friends accept the good news. But the reality is not all will accept. We do our best and leave the rest to God who knows every intention of the hearts – whether they will accept or deny Jesus Christ. He gives them the choice. Unfortunately we can’t choose for them.

    • Beverley,
We sometimes overlook the greatest resource we have. Prayer. If you have been praying continue to pray, God hears your prayer and what greater partner and agreement could you have than the One who desires that all be saved. I will not focus on the what if’s and who might not be saved. If they are still alive on this planet God can still reach them. Be encouraged and pray!

I still find it hard to believe that God would leave his children behind – all of them. I do so think – that we have truly misinterpreted a lot about his grace for the world He created.

    • Beverley says:

God promises that only the just shall inherit his kingdom. It’s not the fact that we are his children but the fact he has given us commandments to follow, who breaks them and do not repent won’t see the kingdom. Sad really..x

      • idiotwriter says:

Thanks for the insight Beverley. ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.
So who is going to hell?
