Encourage One Another-Light Shines In the Darkness

The light shines in the darkness

“The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it” John 1:5

“Aslan is on the move” C.S. Lewis

Two sentences, one from scripture and one from a children’s book by C.S. Lewis, give me great comfort and encouragement in this time we are in.

Comforted because I can be assured that even in the great darkness that presently overshadows our world, light is shining into it and that light cannot be extinguished.

Encouraged because Aslan indeed is on the move.

If you are familiar with this C.S. Lewis classic The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe you will recognize this sentence. For a long, long time cold and darkness had overshadowed the kingdom of Narnia. Lucy captures the sadness and hopelessness of this long winter when she says “it is always winter, but never Christmas”. The four children meet Mr. Beaver ( a talking animal is not unusual in Mr. Lewis Narnia) who tells them,

“They say Aslan is on the move-perhaps has already landed”.

Mr. Beaver who has lived long in this cold, dreariness where Christmas never comes, lets the children know they are part of a greater adventure than they could ever imagine, and holds forth hope that things are about to change. And so are we.
It is difficult for us at times to imagine that Jesus is moving in our world. We see the darkness, we see the evil that seems to grow stronger with each passing day. For the twelve and others who followed Him, ate with Him, laughed with Him, beheld miracles through Him, on that dark day at Calvary it was hard to see that anything good that could come from what they were seeing
But even in that dark day God was moving and in our darkness He is moving. You never know where He will show up

This morning as I read Bible verses to my 2-year-old grandson, planting seeds in his little heart.

He is on the move

Today when I received word from my daughter that her son responded to the invitation at vacation bible school and wants to be baptized

He is on the move

In places and people all over the world,

He is on the move

In the midst of evil and trouble

In situations some that look hopeless

He is on the move

And despite the darkness in the world, we have His word

“The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it” John 1:5

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.  John 16:33

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31

Be at peace

Be of good cheer and courage

He is victorious and through Him so are we

He is for us

He is on the move

Lord our prayer is that you would help us to see what you are doing in our world. Help us to be comforted knowing that darkness will not win in the end. Help us to not be fearful or discouraged but to be encouraged knowing that you are working in our world in despite the darkness we see. Your kingdom is advancing, you are on the move, help us to eagerly desire to be a part of what you are doing. Amen

I believe Your spirit is alive and on the move
Oh I want to be caught up in the middle of You
I wanna be a part of what I know you’re gonna do
Oh I wanna be caught up in the middle of You

About HCliffCraig.com

“Now at last they were beginning chapter One of the great story no one on earth has read: which goes on forever”. I love this line at the end of the Last Battle by C.S. Lewis. Everyone has a story to tell and ultimately we are all part of a greater story that someday will be revealed in full. “ For now, we can only see a dim and blurry picture of things”. ( 1 Corinthians 13:12). My story is not remarkable, although the events I have had the privilege in my life to witness have been. I grew up in the south “the land of cotton” and the old times there were definitely not forgotten. I remember where I was and what I was doing when JFK and Martin Luther King were murdered in Dallas and in Memphis. I remember the Civil Rights movement, a time of great unrest and change. I remember the dawning of the “Age of Aquarius” in the late 1960’s. It was also the dawning of my love for playing music, a love that has stayed with me throughout my life. If my life were chapters in a book one would tell of my precious bride of 20+ years who endured so much and stood beside me through the good and the bad. One would describe the blessings of being a father and a grandfather. One would tell about how despite being “the wretch” the song sings about God was able to change me, and use me to make a difference in others lives, make me a servant in His church, and surround me with friends all because of His goodness. All part of a story that has had many twists and turns. I think of the words Jimmy Buffet wrote in one of my favorite songs "As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin’ man I have chalked up many a mile Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks And I learned much from both of their styles" And so it is true for me. But in all of my travels and all I have read and experienced nothing compares to where I am headed. The place where my story here ends and the story that goes on forever begins! "" I am confident that He who began a good work in you will carry it on until completion until the day He returns". Philippians 1:6 My hope is that as we all run our race that in some small way my words will encourage and speak to you, as your story is being written. And draw you ever closer to the One who loves you. Further up and further in!
