It’s Just Time

We waste time, save time, make time, have time on our hands, take time, pass the time, keep time, lose time. We get there just in time. We run out of time. Lose track of time. Set time limits. Take time outs. There’s not enough time in the day. But some of us have too much time on our hands.

Thank God for time. Time helps us run everything. The writer of Ecclesiastes tells us in chapter 3,

There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven.

Everything we experience on earth has an appointed hour for it to occur. But God is not concerned with time.

What absolutely amazes me about God is that He’s out of time. He’s in the present. He’s at the Garden of Eden right now. He’s at the Burning Bush. He’s at Jericho. He’s at the cross. He’s at the World Trade Center. He’s at Armageddon. He’s out on the cloud at the Midnight hour when Jesus calls us home. That’s why the writer of Hebrews can say,

“Jesus is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.”

Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my hectic life here on the planet that I lose track of an eternal perspective. For us heaven is out there at some future point in time. In the grand scheme of things it’s just time. It has no eternal significance.

But our forever fellowship with God is now. I can’t grasp that. I can’t understand it, but I know it’s true. There won’t be clocks in heaven because we won’t ever need time again.

“Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.” John 11:25-26

I’m going to try to remember that more often. It might make time pass faster until Christ steps out on that cloud to call us home.
