In some circles the word “self discovery” is a bad one. It implies a focus that counters the idea of where our vision and focus should be. I would argue with that conclusion, because of the fact that we don’t design ourselves. We are made in God’s image. At the onset we have no idea what that image might be, so we look for it in others and in the products of his imagination . Our efforts to reach that destination are worthy in any device He uses.
As His instrument , God empowers others to deliver wisdom and perspective to each other. We are allowed to make choices as to what we will accept as truths or lies; wrong or right for us.
While we are truly formed even before we enter our mother’s womb, much is found in the Bible that attests to the fact that events shape or lives…. there are those that may be terribly adverse..
Beyond it all, we are meant to be messengers and we are to express them as we are designed to in our giftedness. Often we do not design the medium or the method.Those of us who have gone “prospecting” know the value of making the search; that we may search and sort until the Spirit directs us. He cannot do that unless we make the journey. because it is a long one and we must start early; Sometimes even despite the protest of those around us..Even as we may be deemed foolish.
I share Yeats poem ” A Prayer for Old Age” with you;
“God guard me from those thoughts men think
In the mind alone
He that sings a lasting song
Thinks in a marrow bone
From all that make us a wise old man
That can be praised of all
Oh, what I am I should not seem
For the song’s sake a fool?
I pray -for fashion’s word is out
And prayer comes round again
That I may seem, though I die old,
A foolish and passionate man”.
