I will make you fishers of men

I wanted to add some thoughts from my post from last week. You can find the first part at http://messagefromthefield.com/2016/02/20/the-night-on-which-no-morning-dawns/

Just as clearly as Jesus spoke on hell, He also spoke on heaven.

“Jesus: I am the resurrection and the source of all life.. those who believe in Me will live even in death. Everyone who lives and believes in Me will never truly die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26

For God expressed His love for the world in this way: He gave His only Son so that whoever believes in Him will not face everlasting destruction, but will have everlasting life. John 3:16

Jesus: Don’t get lost in despair; believe in God, and keep on believing in Me. My Father’s home is designed to accommodate all of you. If there were not room for everyone, I would have told you that. I am going to make arrangements for your arrival. I will be there to greet you personally and welcome you home, where we will be together. You know where I am going and how to get there. John 14:1-4

The prophecies are fulfilled:
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
Death will be no more;
Mourning no more, crying no more, pain no more,
For the first things have gone away. Revelations 21:4

From his book “Follow Me” David Platt, writes

“True belief in both heaven and hell radically changes the way we live on earth”.*

We are only here for a moment of time, and after our short sojourn eternity lies before us.

Jesus said to His disciples “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men”, it was His mission on earth to save us from hell, that prompted His call to them. It for this same reason He calls you and I.

The anti-christian sentiment we see in our world is directed towards discouraging from this mission to follow and be fishers of all people. It comes in threats of death and actual genocide in other countries. It comes from public officials, our education system and in our public market place and in other nations, attempting to deny the opportunity to share the Gospel. It comes through accusations of intolerance towards lifestyles and other religions. Make no mistake the enemy fears the message of the Cross and will do anything and everything to prevent its message from being spread.

David Platt states this challenge to persevere to each of us “If you and I know and we believe that Jesus came to save us from hell for heaven, then we have no choice but to spend our lives here on earth making that salvation known”.*

Wherever we encounter people, at the coffee shop, studying next to us in the library, working next to us in the office or living next to us in our neighborhoods, they may be on the road to everlasting suffering. We must tell them about the Christ who will lead them to eternal salvation and satisfaction. If we believe anything less it makes no sense.*

We must do this no matter what the cost to us may be. Jesus is saying,

“Follow Me”

About HCliffCraig.com

“Now at last they were beginning chapter One of the great story no one on earth has read: which goes on forever”. I love this line at the end of the Last Battle by C.S. Lewis. Everyone has a story to tell and ultimately we are all part of a greater story that someday will be revealed in full. “ For now, we can only see a dim and blurry picture of things”. ( 1 Corinthians 13:12). My story is not remarkable, although the events I have had the privilege in my life to witness have been. I grew up in the south “the land of cotton” and the old times there were definitely not forgotten. I remember where I was and what I was doing when JFK and Martin Luther King were murdered in Dallas and in Memphis. I remember the Civil Rights movement, a time of great unrest and change. I remember the dawning of the “Age of Aquarius” in the late 1960’s. It was also the dawning of my love for playing music, a love that has stayed with me throughout my life. If my life were chapters in a book one would tell of my precious bride of 20+ years who endured so much and stood beside me through the good and the bad. One would describe the blessings of being a father and a grandfather. One would tell about how despite being “the wretch” the song sings about God was able to change me, and use me to make a difference in others lives, make me a servant in His church, and surround me with friends all because of His goodness. All part of a story that has had many twists and turns. I think of the words Jimmy Buffet wrote in one of my favorite songs "As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin’ man I have chalked up many a mile Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks And I learned much from both of their styles" And so it is true for me. But in all of my travels and all I have read and experienced nothing compares to where I am headed. The place where my story here ends and the story that goes on forever begins! "" I am confident that He who began a good work in you will carry it on until completion until the day He returns". Philippians 1:6 My hope is that as we all run our race that in some small way my words will encourage and speak to you, as your story is being written. And draw you ever closer to the One who loves you. Further up and further in!
