Like all young parents, we’ve been hearing tons of parenting advice since Irelyn was the size of a peanut. For most of these wise sayings we are thankful. Mostly I am thankful for all these wise people in my life and the life of my family.
I was talking with one of these sages about the importance of understanding the Bible as one long story and how we fit into that as being my main point of emphasis on Family Worship. He wanted to back me up a little. I am thankful for like minded reverse engineering, wartime missionary living men who can and will speak back into my situation.
This friend whose children are already grown and moved out told me his number one goal in Family Worship. He said that through all the Bible stories, devotions, children’s ministries, camps, and so on that he wanted them (his kids) to know just how much Jesus loves them. He reminded me that they’ll never comprehend His love for us like we still do not.
Jesus loves us more than any one of us can possibly even begin to imagine.
We hear this all of the time and it is still so profound. Do our kids hear this? Consistently?
Jesus’ love is how we fit into the Story of God. The whole story of the Bible revolves around Him: His birth, life death, and resurrection on our behalf to become part of His family.
It’s important to keep the end goal in mind no matter what we’re doing. So I am carrying and now passing on this baton to you all.
Let us always “Get to Jesus.” If we miss this mark, no other dream you can or will fulfill your children will matter.
Thank you Father for giving us yourself in your son that we may be your sons and daughters. Thank you Jesus for your example. Thank you for making us your siblings and for breathing the Holy Spirit into us, for giving us new life, for empowering us and living through us. Thank you Father for giving us the same communion that you had with your son. In Jesus’ name, amen.
