Who is Jesus?

true identity in Christ

Savior of the world. Lamb of God. Prince of Peace. The Word. The way, the truth and the life. That’s who the Bible says He is.

That’s what we call Jesus. He’s all those things. What still gives some folks trouble is when Jesus calls himself God! When Phillip asked Jesus to show them the Father, Jesus replied,

“Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me?

And in John 1:1-3 John writes,

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word WAS God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,

And in John 8:58, John writes,

Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” In Exodus 3:14, when Moses asked God, “Who shall I say sent me?” God said to Moses, “I AM who I AM.  This is what you can tell the Israelites; I AM has sent me to you.”

The Bible teaches that Jesus declared himself to be fully God and fully man. His statements about Himself can only mean Jesus was,

  • a Liar–If he was not God then he was lying about his identity.
  • a Lunatic–If he was not God and not a liar that would make him crazy.
  • The Lord–If he was not a liar or a lunatic, he had to be Lord.

And God and Jesus had to be one.

There is no other option. No other explanation.

If Jesus is not God, and God is not Jesus, God’s salvation plan will not work.

About Steve Sawyer

God blessed me with the gift of writing. Mom told me I wrote paragraphs in second grade when others were learning to write sentences. I spent more than three decades in professional writing gigs. For the past eight years I've combined my passion for writing with my love for the Lord. He and I write a Christ-centered, family-friendly blog to glorify God Monday-thru Friday at https://stevensawyer.wordpress.com/. My wife and I have four grown children and two precious granddaughters we co-parent with their mom. I'm a Galatians 2:20 disciple of Christ seeking to allow Christ to live His life in me, through me, and as me.
