But what has violence ever accomplished?
Wars have been fought since the beginning of time but has the violence of war eliminated war?
Violence has been used to tear down and establish kingdoms and nation’s only to see the cycle repeat itself again and again
The violence of war that divided a nation over one hundred years ago set in motion events that would free an entire people from the yoke of slavery and oppression.
But it would take another hundred years for free to become equal a mission not yet delivered in full.
And still that war goes on growing increasingly violent.
And some believe that violence is the solution to our problems. But the war that is fought for the hearts of women and men can never be won by violence. From then until now…
“from John the Baptist until now violent men seek to take the Kingdom of God by force.”
But the kingdom Jesus came to establish would not be built on war and violence but instead on
Scripture tells us
“though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
– 2 Corinthians 10:3-4
Violence only leads to more violence, it is never a solution.
And like the ancient law of Moses that identified sin but offered no solution, violence identifies the conflict but does little to bring resolution.
As surely as violence can never inhabit the Kingdom of heaven, it can never bring about the change in hearts that is needed to love, to honor, to respect, to view all as equal, created in the image of God.
