Sparrows

I have spent the better part of the last 3 days fretting and worrying over something that in the end I have no control over.
If the circus that is currently going on in our nation’s capital in regard to the hearings and accusations against Brett Kavanaugh weren’t so serious they would be completely laughable.
I never cease to be amazed especially in politics at the lengths people especially in politics will go to to achieve their agenda.

I really needed a reminder to focus on what’s important and today I received one.
Several months ago a former coworker gave birth to a baby boy.
She and her husband had been trying for some time to have a child and the birth of this baby was an answer to their prayers.
I won’t go into details to protect their privacy but almost immediately their baby begin to have serious health issues.
In the days that followed it looked like their little one they had prayed for for so long one would not make it.
I followed their difficult journey and the days that followed from the hospital, to the specialists, to the diagnosis and
re-diagnosis none of them good news.
And then the miraculous begin to happen.
Little Nate defied all the diagnosis and began to get better.
Today his mom asked for prayer as they meet with his specialists tomorrow to try to determine what is ahead. As I thought about what they have been through for the last few months I realize my worries and concerns are small indeed. None of them ranked on the chart of importance even close to the well-being and the life that I pray to God has ahead for this little one.
And then I read these familiar verses of Scripture posted by Nate’s mom.
This reminded me of what’s really important.

Look, if you sold a few sparrows, how much money would you get? A copper coin apiece, perhaps? And yet your Father in heaven knows when those small sparrows fall to the ground. You, beloved, are worth so much more than a whole flock of sparrows. God knows everything about you, even the number of hairs on your head. So do not fear. – Matthew 10:29-30
The Voice translation
Why do I worry about the matters of this world. Maybe out of concern and fear for my children and my grandchildren. Maybe because I worry and fear for myself, my wife, my family ,my friends. Reading this verse I was reminded how insignificant all of these concerns really are.
I was reminded that the kingdoms and government’s and the people who so desperately desire the power that they give will in time all pass away.
But the love that God has even for the smallest creature, for  little Nate, for you and I will never pass away will never change no matter what this world brings.
And because I can be sure of that there is no reason to fear. Is this Eye Is on the Sparrow then his eyes are on you and me.

About HCliffCraig.com

“Now at last they were beginning chapter One of the great story no one on earth has read: which goes on forever”. I love this line at the end of the Last Battle by C.S. Lewis. Everyone has a story to tell and ultimately we are all part of a greater story that someday will be revealed in full. “ For now, we can only see a dim and blurry picture of things”. ( 1 Corinthians 13:12). My story is not remarkable, although the events I have had the privilege in my life to witness have been. I grew up in the south “the land of cotton” and the old times there were definitely not forgotten. I remember where I was and what I was doing when JFK and Martin Luther King were murdered in Dallas and in Memphis. I remember the Civil Rights movement, a time of great unrest and change. I remember the dawning of the “Age of Aquarius” in the late 1960’s. It was also the dawning of my love for playing music, a love that has stayed with me throughout my life. If my life were chapters in a book one would tell of my precious bride of 20+ years who endured so much and stood beside me through the good and the bad. One would describe the blessings of being a father and a grandfather. One would tell about how despite being “the wretch” the song sings about God was able to change me, and use me to make a difference in others lives, make me a servant in His church, and surround me with friends all because of His goodness. All part of a story that has had many twists and turns. I think of the words Jimmy Buffet wrote in one of my favorite songs "As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin’ man I have chalked up many a mile Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks And I learned much from both of their styles" And so it is true for me. But in all of my travels and all I have read and experienced nothing compares to where I am headed. The place where my story here ends and the story that goes on forever begins! "" I am confident that He who began a good work in you will carry it on until completion until the day He returns". Philippians 1:6 My hope is that as we all run our race that in some small way my words will encourage and speak to you, as your story is being written. And draw you ever closer to the One who loves you. Further up and further in!
