But the wicked will continue to be wicked, but those who are wise will understand…
Daniel 12:10

In less than twenty years we have witnessed profound changes in our nation.
Increasingly in our society we see good called evil and evil called good.  If you believe the Bible contains non-negotiable instructions for how life should be lived, in line with who God is, how He should be worshipped, how we should treat one another (and personally I do) it is evident we have gone far down the path away from His expectation of what is good and what is evil.

I fully understand the case could be made that how one interprets what the Bible has to say is their truth. But many of these issues do not require a PhD in theology to rightly understand.

The sanctity of life,  biblical definition of marriage to name a few.

The truth is we have been played believer, non-believer, atheist etc….
I am not an expert on urban slang but when I read the definition of played in the Urban Dictionary it certainly applies,

“Made a fool of, chumped, taken advantage of.”

We have been made to look like fools, taken advantage of, given false information by the ultimate player. He has many names but two that stand out is the Father of Lies and the Great Deceiver. This player does most of his work behind the scenes and only a very few acknowledge his existence. Ephesians 6 tells us about his infrastructure,

“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”

The Message explains the rules of engagement,

“This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels”.

How have we been played? We in the corporate church we have spent far too much time fighting against one another. Or we have settled for a “love is all you need”* theology, allowing the wolves the Bible speaks about into the sheep pen.
Add to that a mindset that is focused on “our best life now” and other similar themes, that rewrites scripture, “set your affection on things right now not on things above”** and you have a church unaware

that children are being slaughtered by the millions,

of darkness in the form of active persecution and deception,

that the Gospel is being neglected as we seek to build empires instead of people.

Those who are non-Christian, non-religious seem more than happy to go along with whatever culture dictates as truth. The price is cheap and it allows you to live however you please. The original lies in the garden repeated over and over and over.
And the deceiver, the father of lies, the god of this world loves it so…

Because his end game has always been, always will be, the destruction, the eternal loss, of that which God prizes most.

You and I and the countless millions who will live come and go on this earth, and the ones who are yet to come until time is up.

All loved, all significant to Him.

We need to recognize the real enemy behind the problems our world faces.

But most important we need to ask God earnestly without reservation what He would have us do.

There exists no problem God does not have an answer for.

The enemy we face  while formidable would have little chance of succeeding in the evil he creates without those willing to do his bidding. Even though they may not see him behind it.
The ability to do good to offset that evil depends on the same thing. And if we are listening we have no excuse for inaction.
I believe we will answer for what we did with what we had in this life but we will also answer for what we did not do.

“Now at last they were beginning chapter One of the great story no one on earth has read: which goes on forever”. I love this line at the end of the Last Battle by C.S. Lewis. Everyone has a story to tell and ultimately we are all part of a greater story that someday will be revealed in full. “ For now, we can only see a dim and blurry picture of things”. ( 1 Corinthians 13:12). My story is not remarkable, although the events I have had the privilege in my life to witness have been. I grew up in the south “the land of cotton” and the old times there were definitely not forgotten. I remember where I was and what I was doing when JFK and Martin Luther King were murdered in Dallas and in Memphis. I remember the Civil Rights movement, a time of great unrest and change. I remember the dawning of the “Age of Aquarius” in the late 1960’s. It was also the dawning of my love for playing music, a love that has stayed with me throughout my life. If my life were chapters in a book one would tell of my precious bride of 20+ years who endured so much and stood beside me through the good and the bad. One would describe the blessings of being a father and a grandfather. One would tell about how despite being “the wretch” the song sings about God was able to change me, and use me to make a difference in others lives, make me a servant in His church, and surround me with friends all because of His goodness. All part of a story that has had many twists and turns. I think of the words Jimmy Buffet wrote in one of my favorite songs "As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin’ man I have chalked up many a mile Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks And I learned much from both of their styles" And so it is true for me. But in all of my travels and all I have read and experienced nothing compares to where I am headed. The place where my story here ends and the story that goes on forever begins! "" I am confident that He who began a good work in you will carry it on until completion until the day He returns". Philippians 1:6 My hope is that as we all run our race that in some small way my words will encourage and speak to you, as your story is being written. And draw you ever closer to the One who loves you. Further up and further in!
