A Faith of Convenience

“The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:8-13

I wrote the poem below very early in my discovered relationship with Jesus Christ.  He has been walking beside me for the last 20 years now.  I have seen awful pain and experienced joyous moments – but with Him next to me – I can honestly say He has never abandoned me in the highs, lows or vagaries of life, and that – has made all the difference. I am saved by grace, not by works…. Hope you enjoy the poem 😉

I was a child with a faith of convenience
Believed in His name, as long as I could justify
My focus on me and the world all around me
I broke my own heart with my choices and my lies

I clearly remember sitting in a rain storm
Crying and sobbing and drowning in my shame
Stood before the Accuser and listened as he taunted me
I knew my one chance was to call out God’s name

Now I am not perfect
No, I am not perfect
Oh, I am not perfect, but His love is

I broke with His Spirit, closed my life to His goodness
Yet my faith of convenience would not keep Him away
For I am but clay, and He is the Potter
Now daily He molds me as I drop on knees to pray

A faith of convenience is not easy to live with
But Jesus has different plans to call us His Way
Now I am filled with His Spirit and walk with Him daily
and though I still stumble, He holds me in His grace.

Now I am not perfect
No, I am not perfect
Oh, I am not perfect, but His love is

Yes, His love is

About setyourpathsstraight

It is my desire to serve God and others through writing; by proclaiming His goodness, provision and character in story form. Though I was not always a follower of Jesus Christ, I have experienced life changes that can only be a result of personally meeting Him. He is not a God of religion, but of relationship. I don't have the answers to life's challenges, but I know where to find them...only in God's Word can any of us stop following crooked paths. The month of my spiritual birthday, I read Proverbs 3:5-6 and claimed it as my life verse... "Trust in the Lord in all you do, lean not on your own understanding In all your ways acknowledge Him.... and He will Set Your Paths Straight." Thank you for your visit today. Please come back again.
