A Trembling Hand

The quote above is from a signer of the Declaration of Independence

I am thoroughly convinced that the founding of America was not man’s idea but the very conception of our Almighty God. All the odds were against a rag tag group of Patriots. Choosing to rise up against the most powerful nation in the world at the time, England, was a bold move for a bunch of upstarts. Enemies were in their own community and across the oceans.Yet America was born and much to the chagrin of many, continues to thrive. We aren’t perfect, there have been some egregious mistakes, but the hallmark of a great people and nation is to learn from those mistakes and lead by example to make changes which will benefit future generations to come. If this country is so awful, why are folks from every nation across the globe so keen to come here?

On this day, our nation’s birthday, stop to be thankful to our rebel forefathers, stop to ponder your own blessings as an American and go ask an immigrant who lives here why they came.

I have found in countless conversations with our international friends who live here now that they, more than we, understand the importance and blessing of coming to this country. Let us not fight each other ideologically. Do not let politics polarize our hearts. Come together. For each other. Let us realize that it is only united as a country that we will stand. Remember the lesson of 1776- that ONLY together can this country last another 245 years. E PLURIBUS UNUM. Happy Birthday to the land I love.

I thank God you were born. I thank God that my ancestors, the poor, the downtrodden the less fortunate had the opportunity and the wherewithal to follow the dream in their hearts – to come to this promised Land.

As a docent at the Native American History Museum in Washington DC recently said to a class of visiting college students, “The price is too high for it not to be great…”

About setyourpathsstraight

It is my desire to serve God and others through writing; by proclaiming His goodness, provision and character in story form. Though I was not always a follower of Jesus Christ, I have experienced life changes that can only be a result of personally meeting Him. He is not a God of religion, but of relationship. I don't have the answers to life's challenges, but I know where to find them...only in God's Word can any of us stop following crooked paths. The month of my spiritual birthday, I read Proverbs 3:5-6 and claimed it as my life verse... "Trust in the Lord in all you do, lean not on your own understanding In all your ways acknowledge Him.... and He will Set Your Paths Straight." Thank you for your visit today. Please come back again.
