“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? “ PSALM 27:1
I love to wear my bangle bracelet. Gold and wide, it boldly proclaims across its surface and reminds me every time I look down – “my faith is bigger than my fear”
I can’t tell you how many times I needed to see that message on my wrist over the past several years. It is flanked with another bracelet I wear, “God is in her, She will not Fall”. Psalm 46:5
It may seem silly to you that I need these reminders, but let’s face it we all have our talismans. I am a woman who believes strongly that I am the daughter of a King, that Jesus is my Lord and that He will never forsake me.
However. I also know that I live here on earth, not in heaven, yet… Thus I am subject to troubles, fear, pain, difficulties and fallout from my sin or someone’s else’s. Jesus warned, We will have tribulations.
In this life, we are in one of 3 states….either entering the storm, riding it out or coming ashore.
For the follower of Jesus Christ, whatever stage of the storm we are in – we are called to rely upon our faith to be the rudder in our lives. This is sometimes easier said than done and so as a girl who sometimes just needs a little second touch – I wrap these reminders around my wrists daily.
And God.
He was the first to make this suggestion to His children. In Deuteronomy 6:6-9 He advised:
“Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.” The Message
I smile when I think of how intimately the Father knows the hearts of his creation. He knows how hard it can sometimes be to walk through this life – which is why he sent his son Jesus to walk with us and why He gave us His written word to guide us, love us and lead us. We human beings are tactile creatures and maybe that is why God said for us to tie his word to our hands, so that we can read them and physically experience the strength and truth of them on our lives.
And as for me, well I am definitely better with my bangles. 😇
Amen and amen.
