With the ever growing expansion of cable television has come it would seem an endless
variety of programs. It has been said that the variety of the programs that we can
view via television range from A to Z. There is it seems something for everybody. No
one should feel left out.
Just like everyone else I have my favorites as well. Be if from sports to say the nature
based programs there is always something that I can view. Having a choice is not a
I am someone who is drawn to the type of programs such as those ones where
handymen are working on homes or say building projects. Now I am going to be the
first to admit, I am not a handyman.
Truth be told it is something that I was never interested in let along good at. I am at the level of being very basic at best when it comes to fixing things. I am as I have mentioned on many occasion a firm believer in knowing your role. Being that handy person is not my thing nor is it something that I have aspired to become.
That having been said I still watch with interest how these handymen repair and fix
up things via their projects. What appears to be frankly a mess at the beginning over
time becomes a finished project. Invariably at the end of each program I heard the
handymen quote a phrase as the show ends. They close by saying “ well done.”
Another form of programs that I will spend time watching are the cooking shows. I
am amazed at the level of intensity that the cooks and or chefs display when they are
preparing a dish or meal. Their concentration and focus is 100% on the task that they
have undertaken and they don’t waiver even a little bit as they work towards their
end goal. As the competition or demonstration comes to an end, just as is the case with those handyman shows each cook looks to utter or hear that same phrase “ well done .”
Well done . Two words that I believe that each of us look forward to hearing. Two
words that we at times have as well said to ourselves as we have put the finishing
touches on something that we were doing.
Well done serves as a confirmation of what we have completed in a positive manner.
As well these two words also provide us with a sense of success knowing that we have
accomplished what we set out to do.
In our everyday life we seek to obtain affirmation of what we are working on via our
job or within our communities or as much as any other place within our families and
homes. We long to hear or know that those two words stand before us, well done .
As human beings it is in our DNA to seek approval. We are always on a quest to
have that sense of fulfillment of knowing that we are successful and appreciated and
thus our souls long to hear and feel the words well done .
With all that we have done in these earthly tents, the challenge for us as the body of
Christ is to not just long to hear the words well done from those within this earthly
plane but to more than anything else be blessed to hear those two words from the Lord
himself. ‘” Well done .”
For all that we will accomplish in this journey while we live on this side of heaven, for
all the words of appreciation that we will receive while we yet continue to move
forward during our time here, nothing will compare with that moment when we
await to hear those two words from our Lord and savior. “ Well done .”
For all of our accomplishments that we will complete during our life, for all that we
will do for others, what will stand will not be what we have heard and been told by
this world. What will stand as the ultimate measuring stick will be those words from
As Christians what remains paramount is that we are mindful that what will matter
isn’t what the world will say or approve of. Nor will it matter whether or not the
world will understand what we did for Christ or why. Because when it is all said and
done each of us will stand before Christ and give an accounting of what we have done.
The standard of acceptance or excellence will be that which was done in His name.
To each have been given talents and gifts. Though everyone may not have the same
talents and gifts we all have been blessed with a talent or gift from God. To that end
to whom much is given, much is required.
Ours is not to compare or compete with others as it regards our particular gift or
talent. It is simply a matter of what we were bestowed with from God being used in a
matter that gives him the glory.
One of the most telling stories in our bible is of course that of the talents. Each person
was given a talent. Their master entrusted them with talents and then it was up to
each individual to decide what to do with them. As the scriptures reflect two individuals took what they were blessed with and created an increase. The third person of course chose to do nothing with his.
Where then will you stand? Will you be among those who will take what the
Lord had blessed you with and create an increase that glorifies him? Or will you
decide that what you have been blessed with is for you and you alone.
This world is not our home. It is merely a temporary place for us as Christians. We
who are children of the king know that one day we will be reunited with God. On
that fateful day which is promised to each and every one of us my prayer is that we
will stand ready with great excitement and anticipation as we wait to hear those two
words that will resonate throughout eternity with our souls, “ Well Done .”
To God be the Glory
