Let go

Matthew 10:14 NIV If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.

I have realized there are some people I may be unequally yoked with and I want to begin filtering my friends and family, but I feel troubled by it. It doesn’t feel right, it doesn’t feel kind or even godly. So, what do I do now?

I am responsible for spreading the good news of Christ; whether that is through preaching, testifying, or simply by living a life that demonstrates what it means to be a righteous Believer. So, I must understand that when I find myself unequally yoked, it isn’t a matter of cutting people off or pushing everyone away.  It could be I am more committed to my unbelieving friend and family than to Christ and they have rejected Christ and so me too. Then after prayer and leading of the Holy Spirit, I can “shake the dust off my feet”.. like washing my hands off them and seeking their salvation. I can let go of them and share the gospel with others.

This happens especially where family is opposed to Christ and rejects Him and tells me so. It is perfectly OK to take a break or stop praying for their salvation and commit them to the Lord . Perhaps the Lord will send someone, a friend or some other family member to be the one to lead that family member to the Lord. I should then focus on sharing the good news with others who are more receptive.

It is a matter of rejection.

Having done everything I can to share the gospel with my friends and/or family, if they simply are not open to accepting Christ then shake the dust off your feet. Wash your hands of them. Be done or rid of those people who have rejected your father.

I am unequally yoked because my friend, companion, or significant other has rejected Christ, and in rejecting God my Father they have rejected me by pushing me away. first. Just keep in mind what purpose your relationship serves and always take the time to step back and ask myself if I am more committed to Christ or to my friends/family.
