Risk/potential loss exposure on expatriate assignments relate to travel, medical/health, loss of assets and repatriation costs. Travel accidents in the air enroute by land or sea, to and from the work location, local travel can be covered by insurance. Health or medical costs or life insurance are usually covered by employer or health insurance by mandatory regulations at work location. Loss of assets during expatriate assignment relate to personal items like money, jewellery, clothes or purchases. All risk losses can be borne by self insurance ie the expat bears as personal loss or they can be shared with employers, and insurers. Repatriation cossts because of ill health or death are usually borne by employer who may have to insure by mandatory regulations.

How am I covered? As far as possible I should have my employer pay for insurance and minimise my own loss. Hospitalization costs and medical care and medicines are costly in cases of cancers, high blood pressure and heart disease, kidney trouble and such disease contagion like corona virus, dengue. Not only could these mean I cannot work but may be repatriated home with loss of income and heavy medical costs to follow. What shall I do? Daily plead for the blood of Jesus to cover me and my family back home, maintain my health and take the necessary precautions to keep free from infections. If I fall ill, should seek employer’s help for medical treatment and and recovery.

The risk of loss from family, home or disasters like floods, typhoons, tsunamis are real yet they would be common to all expatriates at home or abroad. I may not be at the bedside of a dying loved one, relying on other family members or friends to be there and committing them to the One who really can help and see them through to the end.

Pray knowing that nothing happens to me or my family, without the Lord’s permission. I need not be discouraged, He supplies my and our every need!

2 Thessalonians 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.
