Ring of fire
More than 40 years ago, I joined a mission trip to one of the islands off North Central Java. When we arrived we were alerted to be mindful that the church was located in the heart of a muslim area. The congregation tnumbered about 30 and almost all were above 50 years old, some seniors had toothless grins but full of the joy of the Lord, we could see. The testimony that night by the pastor told us how the unbelievers around had attempted many times to set fire to the church. In fact just the previous week, while they were gathered for a prayer meeting, they heard the sounds of clashing swords and and cymbals – an attack was in progress and the Christians banded together more earnestly in the church calling on the name of the Lord to save them. After an hour, the sounds waned as the attackers fled. What happened? The Christians inside did not know. However, when they peeped out the window after silence pervaded the night, there was no one. The pastor approached a neighbour of the church and was told about the ring of angel fire surrounding the church which had sent the attackers fleeing. Praise God!
Have you ever felt so trapped by the enemy that you did not know what to do? As children of God we know that when we call on the Lord to save us, He does. Praise Him!
Psalm 34:7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
