He never sleeps
Many years ago, while on business assignment in Bangkok, my colleagues and I visited Patpong night market, one of the must-do shopping areas for visitors to Bangkok. Amidst the sleazy hot go-go bars and many tourists, we went for the cheap t-shirts, copy leather goods and watches.
There was an art to getting the cut-throat prices in bargaining. For openers, bargain at 30-40% of opening price, compare prices with others, then to the lowest price seller say “I love it, how much?”, move away as if not buying for last offer then buy in quantity by combining purchases of your group. That night we had dinner after frantic bargaining as it was getting late and we had to return to hotel for rest in preparation for a packed agenda the next day.
On arrival in my hotel room I laid my knapsack on my bed and to my dismay found that it had been slit open at the side from top to bottom! Fear gripped my heart as my passport, wallet and travel allowance were all in my knapsack. Quickly I opened my knapsack and miraculously found all my precious belongings intact. The Lord was not asleep. He must have prompted me to move on immediately after my knapsack was slit and before anything could be taken. Bless the Lord, for another escape!
Psalm 121:4 Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
Amen. What assurance for you and me.
