And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” – Mark 16:15.
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:18-20.
Notice the title of this teaching? GO, into the world. I admire those who can pick up and leave home and even loved ones behind for a season to go into the world. Just to be clear, I’m not referring to just Christian missionaries either though I have a very high respect for them. No, I’m referring to the everyday, average ‘Joe,’ no matter the gender or ethnicity or for that matter, nationality, that is willing to take what they have in the form of skills and gifts and share them with others.
Before I get to going to far ahead let me tell you of a pet-peeve I have. There are way too many ministries and churches today, what I like to call “brick and mortar” organizations, that camp within their four walls and they teach their congregation to “go out into the workplace and streets and where ever else you can find people and COMPEL them to come here!” Sorry, I can’t find that anywhere in my Bible or in any of the different translations that I use for study. Everywhere I look, I see Jesus telling those He has discipled to “GO INTO ALL THE WORLD!”
It’s part of the Great Commission and ALL disciples are called to it. Sadly, many don’t heed the call and though they are saved, when the crowns are given out to lay out at the feet of the Lord, some will not have anything to give back though they are saved. I’ll be 70 in August and have been TRYING to serve the Lord since just before my 17th birthday. Like you, I am thankful that God saw fit to choose me for even the least I can do. Praise God for His mercy and graciousness based in Love!!
My girl friend on our second date ( 1956 ) asked me if I would like to go with her to her church !
I said, I don’t mind church, I have been before, I think it is OK
Mind you I thought it was a bit strange but I really liked her so I said OK !
I had never heard the Gospel before like this, the people of the church were so friendly
And that I was going with Bette, wowie, wowie !
That church was alive with the Gospel, you wouldn’t be human if you didn’t respond.
In 3 months I walked the alter call, baptized and joined the church.
Each one reach one and that motto repeated many times !
Now 88, 66 years as a born again believer, now a shut in with poor health
That church was the largest in town, 900 in Sunday School and 8 buses to pick them up
And after a time, 2 sister churches !
I loved serving the Lord and being a Gideon giving out Bibles in schools, malls or fairs was wonderful, Good News Clubs or nursing home ministry !
Thankyou Lord for allowing me to be in your Salvation Army !
Praise God!
