HIS QUIET GLORY

Psalm 5:3
My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD; In the morning
I will direct it to You, And I will look up.
Whether hiking, biking, or just sleeping out, surely a great pleasure of life is to curl up in a sleeping bag under the stars. If you awake in the early morning before the sun has risen, before your companions are stirring, before coffee and bacon and eggs, there is a hush over the world. Droplets of dew rest on your sleeping bag and it seems like the night is still very much around you.
Then slowly, silently, almost imperceptibly, you begin to see a change in the sky. You can’t put your finger on it, but the stars seem to fade and the inky blackness lightens into a cold gray. Then gradually the gray takes on warmer hues. None of this happens quickly. Everything seems to be holding its breath for something. Suddenly, brilliantly, a bright light highlights the edges of the hills. The sun has risen, with all of its beauty, promise, and hope.
Whether it is still dark outside or you’re reading these words with the sun already moving up the sky, take these moments to come before God, offering Him your entire day. As you bring Him praise and lay your needs before Him, take just a few moments to wait. Listen. Breathe. In those moments, God’s Spirit will imperceptibly relax your heart and feed your soul. You may not be able to pinpoint the moment it happens, but you’ll know, when you arise to take on the day, that God has touched you with His light.
