UNEXPECTED SHOWERS

Psalm 33:20-22
Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart
shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name.
Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us, Just as we hope in You.

Look down on any city street on a rainy day and you’ll see a colorful sea of umbrellas—portable roofs keeping the elements at bay. Yellow, pink, clear, striped, even Impressionist-painting-themed umbrellas jostle against basic black as people make their way through the rain to their next destination. A few people, here and there, got caught without an umbrella and so use a purse or newspaper as they scamper as fast as they can to avoid the raindrops. Most everyone (except for the occasional free spirit) looks to shield hair and clothing from the rain.

When trials and difficulties pour down all around you and it seems like troubles rain from the dark sky, God says that He is your help and shield. Like an umbrella, He covers and protects you from the worst of the storm. Whatever drips into your life today, your Lord is there to help keep you warm, safe, and dry. You don’t have to worry or fret because He is protecting you.

As you venture out today—whether the sky is sunny or whether dark clouds threaten—don’t forget your “umbrella.” In that, your heart can find joy. In Him, you can trust. His mercy will rest on you because you wait with hope for Him.
